World War II

Both Truman and Eisenhower had different economic believes and priorities. Truman was focused on lowering taxes and keeping the governments spending to very little. Truman put troops in Europe and Asia because he was nervous of the countries trying to obtain all power and take over. This helped each country with peace and stability. Eisenhower was more conservative than Truman and had very strict and tight control over what the government did. He did not like to buy from other countries, he liked to trade with them.

Kennedy’s foreign policies were always American-Soviet confrontation. The Soviet’s and Kennedy did not get along with each and soon went to war. The war was called the Cold War because there was not actual fighting but just words. The Soviet’s thought they could have more power than any other country so they started to invade others. President Kennedy was not going to tolerate this and took action. Johnson sent a big number of American troops to Vietnam during the Vietnam War. This philosophy did not work because 35,000 American soldiers died and his efforts did not succeed.

Johnson made it possible in the Civil Rights Act that whites and blacks can work together in jobs. He also put in many efforts to help decrease poverty. A major reason Nixon became President was because he promised to remove troops from Vietnam. Nixon also was the first president to negotiate with China’s communist government. Nixon did not spend much of his presidency on domestic policy because he thought Americans could fix their own problems. Johnson and Nixon were the complete opposite in how they approached domestic and foreign policy.
