World War II
Mary McLeod Bethune was a civil rights leader and created an
African-American girls school in Florida that later became
boys and girls. Mary’s parents were slaves and she worked as a slave at 5 years old. She helped Franklin D. Roosevelt during his election and was inducted in the Black Cabinet. The United Nations was created during WWII. It was created because 26 different nations vowed they would fight together. It replaced the League of Nations because many countries wanted to prohibit war against each other. 192 states are currently members of the UN.
