World War II
CAUSES:
The United States and Soviet Union had many economic and political differences and they started to show just before WWII. The U.S. government is elected freely. The States also have freedom of speech and can voice their opinions. The Soviet Union is Communist and people do not have any say and if you did speak freely, you were punished. The Soviets also wanted to stay private because they felt if they needed help, other nations would think they were weak and could be over powered. The United States thought other wise and wanted to strengthen free trading over the world and promote free speech. Then after WWII both nations had much power but the Soviets wanted to over power the United States to take over. These are the cause of the Cold War.

COURSE:
There was never any fighting with guns or canons in the Cold War; it was mostly with words and actions they fought. It was all a grudge match and the countries wanted to be better than other at everything. The Warsaw Pact was issued from 1955-1991 and was made for defense by communist states in Europe. The Truman Doctrine was policy made in the U.S. that says they will support Turkey and Greece in economical and military assistance. Truman stated "the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures." (Wikipedia)
